Jose Hernandez-Meza

Jose Hernandez-Meza, 61, passed away in his home on May 3rd, 2016, with his daughter by his side in Mesa, Arizona. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 13th. His family requests that only family attend his viewing from 6pm-7pm. Friends of Jose who wish to attend will be welcomed from 7pm-8pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 14th at 10am. Both services will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona. Jose was born on April 12th, 1955 in Chiuahaha, Mexico to Elias Hernandez-Monrreal and Elvira Hernandez-Gonzalez. He had an often goofy sense of humor that seemed contagious to those around him. He was a loving and devoted father, brother, and son. He charished family above all else and did everything within his means to make sure they were taken care of. He had high aspirations and he was a highly motivated worker. He faced many challenges throughout his life but he never let financial hardships or ill health stand in the way of his happiness and the happiness of those he loved. He greeted the day early every morning because he loved life and didn't want to waste it on sleeping. Before his death, he faced several months of illness but his physical weakness did not hinder his strength of will or the hope that he would beat that which eventually took him. He gave it everything he had and more. Never was there anyone who fought so hard to live in a world that is, more often than not, so cruel, so selfish, and so unforgiving. He gave those around him a new view and appreciation of what the world could and should be. He is survived by his mother, Elvira Hernandez-Gonzalez; 8 siblings, their spouses, children, and grandchildren; 3 children: Virginia Barkley, Erika Hernandez, and Joseph Hernandez; 3 grandchildren: Joshua, Emily, and Noah. He was preceded in death by his father, Elias Hernandez-Monrreal and brother-in-law, Arturo Mora.
