In Loving Memory of Douglas W Cooley

In late April, Douglas W Cooley of Newbury, Ohio passed away in Phoenix, Arizona. A multifaceted man, loving husband, and father of three children, Doug was a retired medical diagnostic imaging industry executive, U.S. Air Force Veteran, Mechanical Engineer, and Genealogist.

Born in Springfield, Massachusetts to Douglas and Margery Cooley, he is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, and his beloved children, Eric, Amanda, and Jonathan. He is preceded in death by his sister, Susan Donoghue.

Growing up in Springfield, he taught himself to play the piano and organ, competed in school sports, and Square Dance team competitions. He worked as a Sock Hop D.J. during high school. After college, he backpacked around Europe for 4 months. While working and raising his children, Doug coached their various sports. He took pride in their accomplishments.

Favorite activities included bicycling, ballroom dancing, computers, hiking in Arizona, kayaking, photography, rollerblading, various sports including pickleball, and playing the piano daily. For several years, he was church organist and music director at a local church, and accompanist for the Geauga Renaissance Senior Chorus.

His genealogy passion surfaced while researching family history. He was webmaster for various websites including The Bartlett Society and Geauga County Genealogical Society, presented at genealogy events, and was Genealogist for the Cooley Family Association of America for 16 years.

His Celebration of Life Service followed by a Fellowship Luncheon begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025. It will be held at Advent Lutheran Church, 7985 Munson Rd, Mentor Ohio (Livestream on AdventMentor.org). In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the American Cancer Society.
