Ken Fuhrmeister passed away peacefully at home on June 5th, 2026. Ken was born in Rochester, Minnesota on June 19th, 1944. He was the son of Otto and Edna (Drewes) Fuhrmeister of Rochester, Minnesota.
Ken was united in marriage to his loving wife, Margaret (Peggy) Redding, on May 16th, 1964 in Cherokee, Iowa. They were deeply blessed to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Ken grew up in Rochester and Hastings, Minnesota. He pursued his passion as a Meat Cutter until he retired in 2008. He lived in Minnesota until 1984, when he moved to California, eventually settling in Arizona in 2010 to enjoy his retirement days. Ken’s deepest love and cherished accomplishment was family. He treasured the time spent with his wife, children Kim, Shannon and Ken, his grandchildren Ashley, Kayla, Dustin, Brittany, Taylor, Madison, and Kenneth and his 10 great-grandchildren. He also dearly loved his dogs Benji and Gizmo. Ken always took full advantage of life, especially when he was out on the lake fishing, with a cigar in one hand and a pole in the other. He loved camping with family every summer in their blue bus, tubing down the river, trips to Valleyfair, golfing, playing chess, and softball. He cherished annual family cabin time, family Christmas gatherings, trips to the casino and his regular phone calls with his brother, Lorenz. Ken also enjoyed gardening, tending to his roses and watching “the nightly news”. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles.
Ken is survived by his wife, Peggy, of San Tan Valley, Arizona, his daughters Kimberly (Mark) Fritzlar of Avon, Minnesota and Shannon (Jerry) Kane of Gilbert, Arizona, his son Kenneth (Tiffany) Fuhrmeister of Stockton, California, and his brothers Lorenz Fuhrmeister of Rochester, Minnesota and Ron (Monica) Fuhrmeister of Mount Gilead, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Vyla Brandt, Jean Kirlin, and Bonnie Behne, his brother Marvin Fuhrmeister and an infant sibling.
Those of us who were fortunate enough to know Ken, his quick wit and his signature sarcasm are truly blessed. No one was ever a stranger to him. We will never forget him and the love he brought to this world.
A special thank you goes out to Hospice of the Valley for their support during this difficult time.
Celebration of life service will be Saturday, July 11th, 11:30 am to 2:00 pm Wood Lake Meeting Center, Rochester, MN.
