James Somers

Jim Somers, 70, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Mission Palms Care Center In Mesa AZ with his dear friends and caregivers by his side. Jim was born on February 2, 1953 in Superior WI, the son of C.J and Cecelia Somers.

He graduated from Superior Senior High School in Superior WI, class of 1971 moving to Phoenix AZ in 1984. Jim started his new life in Arizona with a variety of positions including working for the Arizona State Mental Hospital and a home for troubled young men. But he was entrepreneurial and started several companies including a franchise for a bakery delivery, 2 laundromats in Tempe, AZ and prior to retirement a Pest Control Company. Jim’s last home was in San Tan Valley where he enjoyed the mountain and sunset views but he also made his home in Sun Lakes and Mesa, AZ in prior years.

He enlisted in the Army 1971 - 1973, including a tour in Viet Nam. Jim was a fun loving guy with a great sense of humor. He met new friends everywhere he went. He loved playing cribbage with family and friends. He loved life and especially his beloved AusieDoddle Olivia, who was his best mate till the end.

He will be dearly missed by his Hunter and Henrikson family cousins and his longtime neighbors and friends in Arizona. He is preceded in death by his parents, C.J and Cecelia Somers, and his older brother Bill Somers. He is survived by his nephew Shawn (Sean) Somers. A memorial of Jim’s service to his country will be placed at the Bong Veterans Memorial Center in Superior Wi.
