Sally A. Payton


Sally A. Payton, age 73 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born December 30, 1946, in Laurel, Mississippi to Willie and Johnette Wright. She spent over 40 years in the medical field as a Surgical Technician. She attended Howard University Nursing School in Washington, DC. She attained numerous certifications as a Surgical Technician. She worked at several hospitals throughout the Chicagoland area, including the University of Chicago Hospital, Michael Reese Hospital and St. Francis Hospital. She assisted surgeons on a variety of medical procedures while developing life-long friendships with her colleagues.

Sally loved helping others in any way she could. Her personality was always positive and often sought out options to obstacles. She also enjoyed music to the fullest, attending concerts and filling her home with music at all times. Her days were often filled with taking care of her mother and spending time with her daughter, two grandchildren other family members. Sally truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family over meals and camping. She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She is survived by her daughter, Tanya, grandson Nicholas, granddaughter Angelica, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 3 nieces, 2 nephews and many aunts and cousins.

Family, friends and others whose lives Sally touched are invited to The Henry Restaurant 4455 E Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ from 3pm-6pm on Saturday, January 25, 2020, to reminisce, grieve, support each other and/or just chat. Come with your most memorable “Sally” story to share with those who loved her.
