John Joseph Mascarelli
John “Muzzy” Joseph Mascarelli Sr., age 84, of Mesa and Buckeye Arizona, passed away on November 21st, 2019, following an extended battle with lung disease.
John was born and raised in Staten Island, New York, having been born on July 12th, 1935. He was the son of John and Margaret Mascarelli and one of 15 siblings.
John was married to Carrie Painter-Mascarelli on February 14th, 2012; they were married for 7 years and together for 16 years. He is survived by sons Lonnie, Jason, Mark and John Jr. and daughters Carissa and Barbara, along many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In his early years, John and his brothers Tommy and Frankie joined the U.S. Navy, styling hair for many Admirals & Captains on ships all over the world. After discharge, he and his brothers owned and operated a styling salon in Greenwich Village that was very popular and frequented by many famous personalities, including The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Frankie Valli and James Dean. Afterwards, John had a 35 year career as a long- on line-haul truck driver for many companies, including Georgia Pacific and Gardner Trucking.
John loved sailing and was very proud of his Hunter 45’ sailboat. His passion for music, dancing and overall enjoyment of life was a privilege to experience. His spirit will live on with his family, friends, and acquaintances he touched over the 84 years of life.
A memorial service will be held on Monday December, 9 2019 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona 23029 Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024. Arrangements handled by Horizon Funeral Care.
