Robert Stuart Carpenter


Robert Stuart Carpenter (Bob) of Surprise, Arizona, died at Saint Joseph Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday, September 2, 2016 at the age of 76.

He was born on April 8, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, to Jacqueline Barnett and Fletcher Carpenter.

An outstanding artist, Bob won numerous awards for his work ( eg: Arizona County Fair and Arizona State Fair -Best of Show.) In the 70s, he co-owned “I Am a Discount Store”, with three locations in the Chicago area. He was National Sales Manager for Speko Products in the early 80s, and a successful music manager and promoter.

He was a graduate of the University of Illinois and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Mr. Carpenter served proudly in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division. He was stationed at Fort Campbell (Ky), attended Jump School, and was a Military Policeman with the 553rd Military Police Company, Third U.S. Army. He was awarded the Sharpshooter Badge (Carbine) and the Marksman Badge (Pistol).

He is survived by his long-time friend, Jackie Marx (Surprise, Arizona), her three children: Cynthia (Ronald Vangell) CA, Christopher (Tere Marx) CA, Jennifer (David Beste) TN, and grandchildren: Kendra Vangell, Sophie Vangell, and Dempsey Beste.

Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brother, Frederick A. Carpenter.

His cremains will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, with a celebration of his life following the service (arrangements pending).

Bob was a fine man, a brave soul, and a loyal, loving friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
