Sandra A. Hawkes



Sandra A. Hawkes, age 85, of Ipswich, MA, entered into rest on Thursday, February 29th 2024, at John C. Lincoln Medical Center in Arizona with her beloved son Kenneth J. Langlois by her side. Sandra was born in Lynn, MA on October 30, 1938. She had a difficult upbringing loosing her father, Harry C. Pierce at the age of 6 and then her beloved mother Elva F. Richards at the age of 14. Her step father, the late Hiram Spinney adopted her and raised her as his own so she didn’t become a ward of the state.

She was the devoted wife of her first husband, the late Robert J. Langlois, also from MA, for 36 years. They settled down in Shelton, CT where they raised their two sons, the late Robert J. Langlois Jr and Kenneth J. Langlois.

Sandy was a graduate of Salem Teachers College in MA. She became an elementary school teacher in both St. Louis and then Bridgeport, CT. After taking a few years off to be a homemaker and raise her sons, she retired as the Director of Therapeutic Recreation at Lord Chamberlain. She was an active member of her community, starting the Shelton chapter of The Welcome Wagon, The Junior Women’s Club, and The Gardening Club. Sandra also was involved in her son’s schools joining the PTA and volunteering for most school events.

Sandy was a huge part of our lives, the sounding board for many, and a gentle natured all around kind soul. Sandy was a mom to many and would always be there for anyone She enjoyed having a hand in raising her cherished grandchildren, Hunter S. Langlois and Hope E. Langlois.

Sandy was married to the late H. Robert Hawkes for 9 years. They had many adventures together driving cross country in their RV with his dog Annie, flying over the Grand Canyon in a helicopter, and spent time vacationing in New Brunswick, Canada. Sandy was an active member with her friends in the Ipswich Country Club where she resided. She loved meeting with her friends, the Mahjong ladies and the members of the Book club.

Sandy is survived by her son Kenneth J. Langlois whom she loved with all her heart, and his wife Michele Langlois. Her two beloved grandchildren who meant the world to her, Hunter S. Langlois and Hope E. Langlois all from Shelton, CT.

Sandra is also survived by her step children Robert Hawkes Jr. of Rowley, MA, Laurence Hawkes of Danville, NH, Debora and her husband Charles Bamforth of East Hampstead, NH.

Among several other grandchildren.
