John Vincent Grimes

John Vincent Grimes, originally from Flint, Michigan, age 92, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026. Born on September 28, 1933, he lived a long and full life surrounded by family, friends, and plenty of laughter.

He is survived by his loving wife Irene Grimes, who in a joyful and unexpected chapter later in life, was reunited with John and the two were married three decades after first finding each other.

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Michael Patrick (Roxanne) Grimes; John David (Laura) Grimes; and Rachel (James) Huiskens; and the three additional daughters he was blessed with upon marriage to Irene: Kathy (Mike) Jaeger, Patti (Hans) Keller; and Jill (Matt) DiAnna; his Sister-in-law Carol (Michael) Grimes and Brother-in-law Richard Gies, Daughter-in-law Carol Grimes.

John was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, as well as dear cousins, including Bernie Young, Judy Harris (Doug), Dennis Grimes, all of whom will cherish his memory.

John was preceded in death by his son, Mark Grimes; his parents, Wilfred and Margaret (Perkins) Grimes; and his siblings, Michael Grimes; Margaret Ann Richter; and Mary Kay Gies.

John dedicated 40 plus years of his career to General Motors and Delco Electronics, where he was known for his strong work ethic and the lasting friendships he built along the way.

He had a gift for bringing joy to others, often sharing his silly jokes and warm sense of humor. He loved reading and spending time with those he cared about most. His life was marked by resilience, love, and meaningful connections, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Cremation has taken place. Donations may be made to Save the Children in John’s memory, an organization he and Irene faithfully supported for many years.
