Carol Ann Campbell

Carol Ann Campbell was surrounded by family when she returned to her heavenly home on January 10, 2020 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 82. She is survived and remembered by her husband Charles Gerald

“Jerry” Campbell and children, Janet Lynn (Brad) Justesen, Jill Danae (Jeff) Bean, Julia Ann (Brent) Jones, as well as 17 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her three sons John Martin Campbell, James Phillip (Alice) Campbell, and Colin Stuart Campbell (Lisa Gertsch), her brother Wiley Randall and sister Shirley Shaw.

Carol Ann was born January 20, 1937 to Martin and Twila Randall in French Camp, California just outside of Tracy, CA where she was raised. She was the youngest child in her family by 13 years and was adored by her parents and older siblings.

It was said of Carol that she “Ruled the house.” She developed a passion for life and learning that continued with her throughout her life. She attended Tracy High where she was a majorette and was courted by the love of her life, Jerry Campbell. Before high school, Carol first captured Jerry’s attention at the Tracy Pool where he was instantly smitten. Later Carol watched Jerry play football and he asked her to dance at the social afterward. By and by, the two would begin a life-long love story that would lead to 66 years of marriage and last for eternity. They were married on August 19, 1953 and welcomed six beautiful children into their home, three boys and three girls. They were later sealed for all eternity in the Oakland temple on August 19, 1980.

Carol relished being the Matriarch of her family and always put family at the center of her life. Family and friends were drawn to her vibrant personality, welcoming arms and playful demeanor. She made thousands of personal memories with each of her children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren. Whether she explained how to make one of her deliciously famous pies, or how to make a bed the proper way, she loved to teach them and lend a listening ear.

Carol and her husband Jerry served a mission from April 2002 – October 2003 for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Nauvoo, Illinois. Here, she shared her love of her Savior Jesus Christ with visitors from across the country.

Carol had many interests and talents. She played the piano, the violin, and sang high soprano. She began sketching as a young girl and continued to develop her talent for art well into her golden years learning how to use a multitude of different mediums. She also engaged in crochet and needlework. Her passion for learning never dimmed as she was an avid reader, writer and loved learning new languages. Carol was also a keen card player, she especially enjoyed playing Bridge, Cribbage and the Campbell family card game “Frustration.”

Carol was composed, refined, spunky and a light to all who knew her. She radiated positivity and was always seen with a smile. She believed in the goodness in everyone. She fostered creativity in her children and grandchildren and passed on an incredible legacy of love, faith and service.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on 27150 Wilkinson Way (off Valpico) in Tracy with the viewing at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. Memorial Donations can be made in her name to her favored causes, The Tracy Hospital Foundation or The American Heart Association.
