James C. Arnold

8/27/1942--11/8/2018

James C. Arnold (Jim) was born to Chet and Marilyn Arnold, their first born, on August 27, 1942 in Spokane, WA. Jim went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on 11/8/2018. Jim is survived by his wife, Jo, beloved daughter Kara McNeil (Derek), granddaughters Maggie and Adalee. Sisters Julie Meyer (Bob), daughters Kaylan and Ashley; and Linda Overland (Dave) children Dana, Ryan, Sarah. Ex-wife Julie Nieland. Members of the family preceding him in death, Chet Arnold, father; Marilyn Arnold, mother; Eric Arnold, son; Doug Arnold, brother.

Jim graduated Shadle High School in 1960. The highlight of his young life was always identified as his summers at the dude ranch in Oregon where he was a cowboy in training. He obtained his BS in Education from Eastern Washington University. ROTC for 2 years entering into the service of his country as 2ndLieutenant. Jim served as a Captain in Germany in the armored division and Vietnam in the transportation division.

Upon his honorable discharge with 4 years in the service, Jim began his varied career teaching 5th and 6th graders in Beaverton, OR for 5 years. After obtaining his Master’s in Education and Administration. He was with Human Resources at District 81 in Spokane; Valley Hospital in Spokane Valley; Empire Health Services in Spokane. During this time, he became an avid runner enjoying many Bloomsday events.

Moving to Colorado brought him many options of employment including High School Dean of Students in Rifle, CO; HR Director at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, CO; HR Director at Grand River Hospital, Rifle, CO. HR director with CenturyLink in Gypsum, CO and he ended his illustrious career in his favorite pastime, drinking coffee at Starbucks as barista “Sir James”. During his time in Colorado Jim fulfilled his desire to be an emu farmer. During these times Jim participated in many church youth activities and events (mostly messy events that made him laugh).

During his retirement in Arizona, he participated in Pickleball and many hiking trips, only one of which ended up with a helicopter ride back down the mountain since their leader had preceded them on the helicopter to the ambulance.

Jim lived life to the fullest – He Loved, He Laughed, He Lived! And he was loved by all!

Spring memorial service is planned at New Creation Church, Glenwood Springs, CO tentatively in May, 2019. Please check with family or church later for confirmed date.
