Myra Chow

September 18, 2018

Myra Chow, 86, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2018 at her home in Peoria, Arizona.  She was born in March of 1932 in San Francisco, California to Parkin and Fanny Lowe.  Myra married Edward Chow 64 years ago in July of 1954 in California.  In 1993, they retired to the Las Vegas Valley from Southern California.

Myra graduated from UC Berkeley in 1954 before marrying Ed. Their first home was in El Paso, Texas where she held the job title of Ballistic Computer. She was an early programmer, similar to those in the movie, Hidden Figures! They moved to San Pedro, CA, then to Fountain Valley, CA where they raised their 4 children. Myra returned to school to obtain her teaching credential, starting off as a substitute teacher. Later, she continued her education, acquiring her master’s degree at USC in Special Education. She retired from Fairview State Hospital in CA as a Special Education teacher.

Myra was a world traveler with her late husband, Ed. They traveled to every continent except Antarctica. Myra’s favorite vacation spot was Tibet. She thought the monasteries were so unique and beautiful. Their last trip was to the Galapagos Islands, just a few years before Ed’s passing.

Myra loved to spend time with her family. She especially enjoyed the holidays and would bring back gifts to share from their far away destinations.

Over the years, Myra had many hobbies. She would sew, knit, make photo albums of her travels, and create wonderful Christmas letters describing their trips they had taken that year.

Myra lost her husband, Ed, in July of 2016. Myra is survived by four children - Tina (Kurt) Kosbab, Teresa (Frank) Harris, Travis (Vicki) Chow, and Tom (Lisa) Chow; three grandchildren - Marissa (Kelley) Hall, Cameron Kosbab, and Jessica Chow; and two brothers - Richard Lowe and Eddie Lowe. She is preceded in death by her parents.
